Reading through this article, a thought popped into my head. I don’t really know if the ignite team is 100% taking advantage of their situation.
An environment where skill development is more important than winning or losing has some value. It’s an approach you’ll often see overseas.
But here comes my problem, we’re acting like the ignite letting Green take whatever shot he wants is expanding his game. But it’s actually restricting him to just being a scorer. The reality is he’d be put in that role anywhere he went.
Since the games really don’t matter from a W/L perspective, why not let him play every position or role on a team? Why not ask him to play center? Why not ask him to have a stretch of games that focuses solely on defense?
All those experiences would only help him expand his game like you’re still hoping he can. Instead, we’re putting those developmental skills off for later which makes the entire program seem shallow.
